The House of Representatives will take up a new bill that would create a national park/monument for the Manhattan Project, including Hanford.

As we reported here on Newstalk 870,   the Senate has seen a similar bill, introduced by Senators Cantwell and Murray.  Now the House bill will also address the issue. Rep. Doc Hastings introduced it, and spoke of the importance of preserving our national heritage and history.  The Manhattan park would include much of Hanford,  including the B reactor, where the plutonium for the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb was made.   It would also include (the Senate Version)  parts of the town of White Bluffs, where some ruins still exist from the town that was taken down to make room for Hanford.
