If you are currently living in Anytown, America and think that you are living in the best city in the world — you are dead wrong.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but according to a new list of the world’s best cities to live, Hong Kong is the most revered, followed closely by Amsterdam, Osaka, Japan and Paris.

The world’s best cities list blends Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) global “livability” index rankings with a criteria upgrade that focuses on “spatial characteristics,” which includes urban sprawl connection, proximity to other cities and pollution.

In the index of 140 cities ranked against each other, five European cities make the cut, with three cities in Asia, one from North America and one from Australia.

The new criteria pushed cities like Sydney (the only Australian city to make the top 10) down from number two to number five, but gave Hong Kong a significant lift from number 10 to this year’s number one.

However, do not feel bad about the livability of where you live unless you just so happen to be in Teharan, Iran, which scored the lowest on the best cities index, followed by the African cities of Nairobi and Lusaka.
