A 3-year-old boy in the Ross Dress For Less parking lot was hit by a Jeep slowly backing out of its stall.

Police say the vehicle knocked the boy down and partly drove over him, but the wheels did not make contact and he had no significant injuries.

The boy was incredibly startled and police are frustrated the child was not better supervised by his family, but a decision has not been made as to whether the parents would be cited. The driver was not cited since they could not see the boy and were backing up slowly and cautiously.

This story has a happy ending but should serve as a warning to all parents to exercise extreme caution in parking lots -- and to drivers that more children are home from school now. That means more parents to watch out for in parking lots and at intersections. KPD has previously said: predict children to act unpredictably.
