Apple Watch To Be Banned After X-Mas in Washington State
Apple Watch Set to be Banned in Washington State Following Christmas
Apple is no stranger to legal battles, and it has faced another setback recently if you were wishing on a new Apple watch for Christmas or New Year's, it might now be banned in Washington State.
Could Washington State Enforce A Ban on Apple Watch Post-Christmas?
The U.S. International Trade Commission has ruled against Apple, stating that it violated patents that belong to a medical technology firm called Masimo.
The ruling also puts a halt to the sales of two Apple Watch models: the Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
This development has forced Apple to stop selling these watches, indicating that only a last-minute intervention from the White House could rescue the sales of these devices.
The United States International Trade Commission has ruled that Apple Watch models that consist of blood oxygen detection violate medically patented technology belonging to Masimo.
This verdict can affect the sales of the latest Apple Watch models designed with this particular feature so if you were expecting to purchase a new Apple watch in Washington State, you'll be out of luck for the foreseeable future.
Apple has recently decided to halt sales of the Series 9 and Ultra 2 models in response to the order issued by the ITC in October.
The White House has the final say in this issue as President Biden and his administration have 60 days to veto the ITC's decision.
Until then, Apple must comply with the ITC's decision. If President Biden vetoes the decision, Apple can continue to distribute its products without any further concerns and sales can continue to increase.
However, if the decision stands, Apple will have to stop selling these devices unless the tech giant can change the devices' software or functionality and those versions of the Apple watch could be banned in Washington State in 2024.
