The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been a phenomenal success raising over $42 million (the ALS usually raises $2 million per year) but what about all the wasted water?! Here are two REALLY good reasons to keep donating to ALS, but STOP the ice bucket challenge!

Reason No. 1 is all the wasted water! Here are all the people pissed about those millions and millions of gallons of wasted water:

  • Everyone in California suffering from drought
  • All the people on that one planet in "Dune"
  • All the people in Ecuador suffering from that evil dictator in "Quantum Solace."
  • Arizona
  • The Colorado River
  • Everyone who actually used real, actual, freezing ice water

Reason No. 2 is the cost of ALS research. Apparently, a cure for ALS is so difficult and expensive that it would take 1 million people donating $100 a year for 30 or 40 years. Hmmm that's a lot. The National Institute of Health usually funds this kind of medical research, but their funding has been cut as Congress reins in spending. Asking Congress to fund ALS research would be more effective than the ice bucket challenge -- but A LOT less fun!
