CBS’ Sexy Young ‘MacGyver’ Reboot Gets a Sexy Pilot Order
A ways back, we’d heard that the ever-clever MacGyver had reinvented himself with a new CBS series under Furious 7 helmer James Wan, returning to that faithful well of a young origin story. That dream is today reality for he Eye, as CBS grants an official pilot order to a new generation of MacGyver, with sexy results.
Following an early 2009 attempt at a movie reboot, as well as additional efforts, Wan’s new take on a younger MacGyver has been given an official pilot order, with a synopsis that reads thusly:
A reimagining of the television series of the same name, following a 20-something MacGyver as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.
Wan himself would direct the pilot episode, while Paul Downs Colaizzo will write and executive produce under fellow EPs Michael Clear and Henry Winkler (yes, that Henry Winkler).
For those unaware, the original MacGyver starred Richard Dean Anderson and ran for an impressive seven seasons on ABC, preceding two made-for-TV movies in the ‘90s. Not only that, but former CW home The WB even attempted a Young MacGyver with a pre-Supernatural Jared Padalecki, ultimately passing on the project.
Sexy results be damned, you can check out the original MacGyver below, and stay tuned for news of the reboot.
