Christina Grimmie’s Mother, Tina, Dies of Cancer 2 Years After Daughter’s Murder
Two years after Christina Grimmie's tragic murder, the Voice star's mother, Tina Grimmie, has passed away.
The Christina Grimmie Foundation published the following statement on social media Sunday (September 2) announcing the matriarch had recently lost her fight with breast cancer:
"We are saddened to announce the loss of our beloved Tina, also affectionately known as 'Mama Grimmie' to the millions of fans of Christina Grimmie around the world. She will be missed immensely," reads the message. "Tina fought a courageous and brave battle with cancer for many years, even until her final hours with family by her side."
"While this is a bittersweet moment for us as a family, particularly after losing Christina two years ago, we rejoice at the thought that Tina and Christina are united once again in the presence of our Lord and Savior."
Tina is survived by her husband, Bud, and their remaining child, a son named Marcus.
The news of Tina's death comes years after her daughter, Christina, was fatally shot at after a downtown concert appearance in Orlando on June 10, 2016. The singer, who was 22 at the time of her killing, was signing autographs after opening for Before You Exit at the Plaza Live Theater when 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl of St. Petersburg, Florida, assassinated the star before taking his own life.
In the wake of her death, a fund was founded in Grimmie's name to provide aid to families of gun violence victims and support for breast cancer patients and their families.
