Many children in the Tri-Cities can't find foster homes. Service Alternatives is always searching for people to foster homeless kids.

It's surprising, but there are roughly 10,000 kids in Washington State at any given time looking to be placed in fosters home. There just aren't enough foster families available for all kids.

Service Alternatives is even putting kids up in local hotels.

The agency says that out of every 10 people that inquire about fostering, only two step up to begin the process.

Service Alternatives is hoping spreading the word will help make people aware of the shortage, and hopefully that will inspire more people to think about becoming foster parents.

If you are interested in fostering, it's actually easy to get the process started and it's free to apply. Several agencies will walk you through the steps.

You just have to be over 21, have a valid driver's license and pass a criminal background check.

You could really make a difference in the life of a child by fostering.
