Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5501 on Monday making it a civil offense to leave pets locked cars or enclosed spaces in dangerous situations such as too hot or too cold conditions.

The law allows a law enforcement officer or an animal control officer to enter a car or enclosed area to remove the animal, and protects them from any liability for any property damage that may occur. The law also comes with a $125 fine for leaving an unattended animal confined where temperature, lack of water or lack of fresh air could hurt or kill it.

I tip my hat to you Gov!
