There is rarely a time when there is not a song in my head. I hum to the point of annoying my friends. My mother told me I was humming even as an infant.

She must have been a hummer as well when I was in her tummy. It's a good thing my mom could hold a tune. She was very musical. I guess it makes sense I would grow up to sing professionally most of my life.
Music has always been huge to me, and I find it so comforting. It's also the way I process my feelings.
According to the Medium website, humming releases happy endorphins and nitric oxide which widens your blood vessels. That creates space between your spiraling thoughts and your nervous system basically, interrupting all thoughts.
I have to remember, it seems rude to some people when in their presence I'm humming. I imagine they think I'm not paying attention to them.

I am actually, the humming is just giving me a pleasant melody that fits perfectly underneath whatever they say. Almost like watching a moving when there is dramatic music in the background.
However, when what they are saying is not nearly as interesting as the song in my head, I tend to zone out. (This was a problem in school)
I have to consciously control my need to hum. It doesn't help that I'm in radio and listen to music almost non-stop.
I think it's natural though, and it must stem from generations of mothers humming or singing lullabies to their unborn babies.
I know that our bodies regulate by vibration and frequency and that must have something to do with it. Music calms the soul and lessons distractive thoughts. I'm very ADD so focusing on a melody calms my nervous system and helps me.
