‘Idol’ Contestant Apologizes to Katy Perry for Loving Taylor Swift
Did you WITNESS this? An American Idol contestant came clean about his love of Taylor Swift to judge Katy Perry on Sunday night's (March 18) episode, and Perry — who's been notoriously locked in a cold war with Swift for years — responded in a possibly shady capacity.
"Who do you look up to as an artist?" Luke Bryan asked the guitar-wielding contestant. The man took a deep breath and then answered.
"I'm sorry for this, Katy," he said. "Taylor Swift."
But Perry wasn't shaken up by the man's admission.
"You don't have to be sorry," Katy said. "I love her as a songwriter as well."
Shade? Shade.
Sadly, the quick clip was part of a bigger montage, so audiences weren't clear who exactly the singer was, whether he was talented or whether he made it through to the next round.
Perry, who first confirmed a rumored, long-running fight with Swift in May 2017, told Ariana Huffington in an interview on the Thrive Global podcast that she was ready to let bygones be bygones and move on.
"I love her, and I want the best for her," she added. "And I think she's a fantastic songwriter, and I think that if we, both her and I, can be representatives of strong women that come together despite their differences, I think the whole world is going to go like, 'Yeah, well we can do this.' I don't know. Maybe I don't agree with everything she does and she doesn't agree with everything I do, but I just really, truly want to come together in a place of love and forgiveness and understanding and compassion."
