Life on Wheels: Understanding Motorhome Regulations in WA
After arriving home late last night, I noticed a motorhome on my street. And, when I woke up in the morning to walk my dog, it was still there. Arriving home from work today, it's still there.
How long can a motorhome park on a residential street in Washington?
I googled it. In Benton County, a motorhome can be parked on the street for up to 72 hours at a time. However, each city within the county may have specific regulations. You're advised to check with the city you are in for the most accurate information. I looked up what the City of Pasco allows:
Recreational vehicles, as defined by Title 25 of the Pasco Municipal Code, may only be parked on the street for a period of 72 hours every two weeks for the purposes of loading and unloading and must be parked in front of the owner’s property. Other exceptions include guests of the owner. Please see Pasco Municipal Code 10.52.030 (4) for the complete ordinance.
Richland varies. The parks and recreation department can issue a FREE permit to allow a motorhome to park on a public roadway for up to 14 days. The permit must be displayed in a visible location.
Is it legal to live in an RV in Washington?
It is legal to live in an RV with no restrictions state wide but there are lots of zoning restrictions you will need to worry about depending on where you are trying to stay.
Because parking restrictions vary from city to city, it's important to check LOCAL laws before parking an RV on the street. Now, if you're interested in a campsite:
