Washington State Patrol is working with local law enforcement agencies with a DUI Emphasis. An increased number of officers will be patrolling area roads looking for impaired drivers through New Year's Eve.

Here's WSP Trooper Chris Thorson with a message.

Police are looking for speeding, distracted driving, and seatbelt violations. Police remind party-goers who are drinking to find a safe ride home. Designate a sober driver, take public transportation, or call a cab.

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is against the law in Washington and if arrested, your license will be suspended. Criminal penalties may also include fines between $700 to $5,200.
