I'm not a Vegetarian but this sure makes me consider it. I was horrified to see this on Instagram and wondered about its validity. So, I did some research and found it's absolutely true! How did I never hear of this before?

Is meat glue dangerous to consume?

Whether or not it's dangerous to consume is largely controversial.

According to America's Test Kitchen is a naturally occurring enzyme. Other research shows a different opinion

In the world of modern food production, this controversial substance has raised eyebrows: Meat Glue. Officially known as transglutaminase, is an enzyme used to bind smaller pieces of meat into larger cuts, creating the illusion of a more expensive, higher-quality product.

It’s often found in processed meats like steaks, chicken breasts, and even deli meats.

While it might seem like a harmless culinary trick, the use of Meat Glue has stirred debate.

On one hand, it can help reduce food waste by repurposing leftover meat into visually appealing products.

On the other hand, the health risks are concerning. When used improperly, the glue can bind bacteria, like Salmonella and E. coli, to a product, making it harder to cook thoroughly and increasing the chances of foodborne illness.

There are also concerns about the long-term effects of consuming a substance that is not naturally found in the human diet.

What’s even more alarming is how little we’ve been told about its widespread use.

Many consumers are unaware that it’s a common ingredient in their meat products, and the lack of transparency raises questions about food industry practices.

So, should Meat Glue be outlawed? It’s a tough call. While it may offer convenience and cost-saving benefits, the potential health risks and the lack of consumer knowledge suggest that we need stricter regulations.

Until we have better transparency and safety standards, the use of Meat Glue in our meat products should be carefully re-evaluated.

What do you think? Should we continue to eat meat with glue, or is it time for a change?
