‘Django Unchained’ and ‘August: Osage County’ Actress Misty Upham Found Dead
It's sad news to end the week with: actress Misty Upham, who recently appeared in 'Django Unchained' and 'August: Osage Country,' was found dead at the bottom of a Seattle ravine after going missing nearly two weeks ago. Her body was discovered by a search party led by her family, who are now accusing the local police of failing to assist in the situation in any way.
According to Gawker, the Upham family repeatedly tried to enlist the help of the police in searching following her disappearance, but to no avail. Says a family spokesman:
First and foremost, the family wants everyone to know that the Auburn police did not help with this situation at all. They refused to help. When she disappeared on Oct. 5, the family knew something was seriously wrong — it was out of character for her to be gone so long without being in touch — and they repeatedly went to the police, who insisted there was no cause for concern.
They note that the long-standing racial tensions between the police and the local Native American population may have contributed to the lack of communication and assistance (Upham was a member of the Muckleshoot Native American tribe).
Her family also revealed that Upham suffered from bipolar disorder and had recently gone off her medication, however they do not believe her death was a suicide.
It's a tragic end for Upham, whose career looked like it was on the verge of taking off. In addition to roles in Awards favorites like 'Django Unchained' and 'August: Osage County,' she also appeared in the critically acclaimed 'Frozen River' and HBO's 'Big Love.' Every death is a tragedy, but it's always upsetting to see a promising career cut short under such horrible circumstances. Misty Upham was 32 years old.
