Northern Lights Potential Sunday Above Tri-Cities
If the government says there is a good chance of witnessing the Northern Lights above Tri-Cities Sunday night, I'll bank on the smart folks running the USA.
The National Weather Service says Tri-Cities could witness moderate geometric storm conditions Sunday night as the Columbia Basin is on the southern cusp of a band of northern lights viewing. Prime viewing conditions are between the yellow and green lines on the above map.
Early Friday morning, a large cloud of plasma and magnetic field called a coronal mass ejection erupted from the sun and should move past the Earth this weekend.
All of Washington state and southern Canada are most likely to see an aurora borealis Sunday night and early Monday morning.
