Prosser Homicide Suspect Now in Custody
The man sought in connection with the fatal shooting death of his wife Saturday night was apprehended by Benton County Sheriff's, Washington State Patrol, Union Gap and Yakima police Sunday evening.
Less than 24 hours after responding to a report of a unresponsive woman near Prosser, officials say 55-year-old Sylvestre Rojas Fuentes was arrested near Union Gap. Law enforcement officials received information he might be in that area, and he was located and apprehended around 8:15PM without incident.
Saturday night Benton County Sheriff's had gone to a home in the 17000 block of PR (Private Road) 1083 NW around 9:48 pm on the shooting report. On arrival they found a 51-year-old woman who had several gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving measures, the woman was declared dead at the scene. Her name was not released, but evidence at the scene led Deputies to carry out an arrest warrant for her husband, Fuentes. They also spoke to the reporting person at the home.
Fuente's vehicle is still missing, his red and cream Ford Bronco is believed to be somewhere in the area between Toppenish and Union Gap. The vehicle is being sought for impound and to search for more evidence. Authorities did not find the gun at the scene of the shooting, they did not say if it was found when Fuentes was arrested.
