Public Outrage Causes City to Cancel Haunted Cemetery Tour in Walla Walla
The City of Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Department abruptly cancelled a Haunted Halloween tour of historical Mountain View Cemetery amid public distain calling the event disrespectful.
Here's the post from City of Walla Walla Parks & Rec Facebook page:
The City of Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Department has cancelled the Mountain View Cemetery tours scheduled for Saturday, October 26. The primary intent of the scheduled tours was to be educational and highlight the rich history that exists at Mountain View Cemetery. We apologize that this message wasn’t properly conveyed in our marketing efforts for these tours. It was not our intent to be disrespectful of those memorialized at the cemetery or their families. Please accept our apologies.
Many Citizens of Walla Walla felt this event was just simply disrespectful to the dead buried there. Here are a few comments from the community
By the Way the Mountain View Cemetery is one of the oldest municipally operated cemeteries in Washington State and is resting place for over 40,000 people with some graves dating back to the 1800's.
I'm pretty sure some of my relatives are buried there as well.
