A thief is in custody and items have been recovered after someone reported a suspect's criminal mischief this morning.

The Richland Police Department was dispatched to the area of the 1600 block of Platt Avenue for a vehicle prowl in progress. The incident took place just after 8:00 this morning. (Friday, March 5th)

The adult male suspect was witnessed stealing items from a yard and looking into several vehicles in the area.

The suspect fled on foot from responding officers, however, was detained a short time later. 25-year old Michael A. Ham was arrested at the intersection of Wilson and Thayer.

Ham was booked on several charges, including trespassing, theft, and vehicle prowling.
