School Field Trip Students Get Gun Scare At Bateman Island

It might've seen like a normal day at Bateman Island in Richland but a gun scare sent some students on a school field trip hiding in the bushes until authorities arrived.

The incident happened when students on a field trip told staff that they saw a man wandering the island with a gun. School staff called 911 and then staff and kids hid in the bushes for safety.

Benton County Sheriff's Department and Richland Police responded and discovered that was mistaken for a gun, was a selfie stick and the man was taking pictures along the banks of Bateman Island.

The man complied with police with no issue and it was soon discovered that a harmless selfie stick was the supposed gun.
