A small, private funeral was held for Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee.

While his company is planning other ways to memorialize him, his family wanted to honor his request to be laid to rest in a ceremony that included only family and close friends, POW! Entertainment said in a statement issued to the Associated Press on Friday.

"Stan was always adamant that he did not want a large public funeral, and as such his family has conducted a private closed ceremony in accordance with his final wishes," the statement read.

The company set up a memorial wall on Lee's website where all who loved him can share their condolences, fond memories, prayers and other tributes to him. Messages from other creators and artists memorializing the icon, 95 at the time of his death, will be shared on Lee's social media accounts in the coming days.

POW! Entertainment has not yet revealed the other ways in which they plan to honor his legacy. They intend to share those details as soon as they're able.

"We at Stan Lee's POW! Entertainment are working on putting together a tribute befitting the greatest creator of our time and the father of modern pop culture. The grandeur of Stan makes this a monumental task, and we hop to have more info in the days to come" the statement said.

Lee died on Monday after being rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. A cause of death has not yet been revealed, but he was known to have been suffering from a number of illnesses over the past year, including pneumonia.

He's survived by his daughter, Joan. Lee's wife, also named Joan, died in 2017. She was 69.
