I always thought some of Wal-Mart's and Starbucks' policies were cool. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't take advantage of these policies when they were in effect but it's sad to see them also go away.

For the longest time, Starbucks seemed pretty liberal in their policies for allowing people to hang out in their business and bathrooms without purchasing anything but that's about to change in 2025.

In an article from Investopedia.com: Starbucks announced that later this month, customers will need to make a purchase to spend time in its cafes or use its restrooms.
In a press release, the company explained that employees have expressed the need to “reset expectations for how our spaces should be used.”
This policy shift is part of the “Back to Starbucks” initiative introduced by new CEO Brian Niccol.
The bathroom policy to allow anyone to use the restrooms dates back to 2018 but going forward don't be surprised if you won't be allowed to use the restrooms without a purchase.
Starbucks might also not allow you to "camp" out if you haven't purchased anything.
So going into 2025, be aware of these new Starbucks policies.
One place you can go for free is your local library, it might not be as "hip" but you'll appreciate the freedom to get your work done without any interference.
