Suicide Squad Is Better Than Critical Reviews – Rik’s Review [VIDEO]
I've been a comic fan since I was a kid and we are living in a crazy age where technology has finally caught up to what can be published on a comic book page. X-Men in 2000 started the wave of newsprint to film explosion and with that a flood of comic book related movies.
There have been some hits as Iron Man, Avengers and The Dark Knight followed by the bombs of Green Lantern, Jonah Hex and Elektra. I actually liked Elektra but it did bomb at the box office.
DC Comics has been trying to have a hit movie that doesn't involve Superman or Batman and I think with Suicide Squad, they are one step closer.
The trailers promised a psychedelic fun ride and the movie posters looked like a 60's drug induced love-in but the movie's promising look quickly came to a halt after the main characters introduction.
It quickly drifted into a straight forward formula of guns, explosions and magical possessions of bystanders. It seemed that Suicide Squad was destined for mediocrity.
I saw the movie in Sunnyside and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a bunch of bright spots and while I didn't think it was the best Comic Book adaptation I've ever seen, it was better than the brutal beating it's getting from the critics.
First, Will Smith as Deadshot is great. He brings a sarcasm and wit that really ties it all together. You spend the movie rooting for a bad guy - that's how much you'll like him.
Second, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller is awesome. She is the ultimate anti-hero government agent that will stop at nothing to get her agenda accomplished no matter the collateral damage. She's not evil but she's not good either.
Lastly, Margo Robbie and Jared Leto as Harley Quinn and Joker. I know there are a lot of Jared Leto fans but Margo Robbie stills the show as Harley. She carries the weight of the movie and she makes you yearn for a Batman movie featuring all three protagonists. I can't wait to see more of that twosome.
DC Comics needs the hit and this movie gets them ever closer to finally putting them up on the same rung as Marvel movies.
I liked the movie and you should give it a chance. I saw the trailers for the upcoming Wonder Woman and Justice League movie and it looks like DC Comics is moving in the right direction, Suicide Squad just happens to be another steeping stone to a universally loved DC comics movie.
oh yeah...the soundtrack rocks!
