People all around the Pacific Northwest will never forget the afternoon of Sunday, May 18th at 12:36 pm. it was the day the mountain blew Mount St. Helens erupted and changed the topography of the area forever.
40 years ago on May 18th, 1980 Mount St. Helens erupted in Washington State and the northern side of the volcano collapsed, triggering a forceful blast that raced across the landscape. The science world including world-renowned geologists, artists, and even Bill Nye the Science Guy are hosting virtual online talks and seminars to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the eruption.
The state is close to approving an open mine in a valley 12 miles from Mt. St. Helens along the Green River. A petition is trying to stop it. What do you think?
