Oregon’s Most Famous Isolated Lighthouse Is Up for Sale $6.5 Million
You Can Purchase One Of Oregon's Most Famous Lighthouses
It's my dream to live near the ocean and you can't get more close to the ocean than the Tillamook Rock lighthouse.
"Terrible Tilly" Can Only Be Accessed By Boat Or Helicopter
The Tillamook Rock lighthouse can be seen from the highway between Seaside and Cannon Beach. The only access to the lighthouse is by helicopter or boat and it's completely isolated from the mainland.
Extreme weather and harsh boat landings made for a rough go at it for the lighthouse. The lighthouse is out in the middle of the ocean, unlike other lighthouses which are at the shore.
The Tillamook Rock Lighthouse Is Oregon's Only Off-Shore Lighthouse
"Terrible Tilly" sits about a mile offshore of the Oregon coastline
"Terrible Tilly" was purchased for $50,000 back in 1980
Tilly was built in the 1880s and decommissioned in 1957 and quickly gained a reputation for its harsh conditions for the lighthouse keepers that had to stay on the island back in the day.
Oregon's Most Isolated Lighthouse Is Now Up For Sale For 6.5 Million
Owner Mimi Morissette placed the property up for sale and is hoping to find a new owner for the historic lighthouse. Morissette says she'll take $1.5 million of the proceeds to help clean up and restore the property.
"Terrible Tilly" can be spotted from nearby Ecola State Park.
One of the unusual things about the lighthouse is that it currently houses 30 urns of ashes as a mini-columbarium. The owner had hoped to store over 300,000 urns on the island but over time, that plan didn't come to fruition.
If I had the money, I'd buy. It would be the ultimate introvert getaway.
