Hey Croods… you’re coming back…Universalllll has revived your sequel…. Yes, that’s right folks, DreamWorks and Universal’s animated caveman family is getting another movie after all, as Universal has officially revived The Croods 2 and given it a September 2020 release date.

Ten months after removing it from DreamWorks’ schedule when the company was bought by Comcast, The Croods 2 has gotten a new lease on life. The Wrap reports that Universal has scheduled the sequel for September 18, 2020, so mark your calendars, Croods fans.

While the first movie didn’t make a huge splash — do most people even remember it, despite its A-list voice cast? — it did make a pile of money, and given animated films’ aptitude for being a sure thing at the box office, a sequel seemed inevitable. But after Comcast’s takeover, it looked like the company hadn’t caught Croods fever. As it turns out, Croods fever just has a lengthy incubation period.

The voice cast from the first Croods will return: Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman and Clark Duke will reprise their caveman roles, and Leslie Mann will also be joining the tribe. The sequel follows the Crood family as they encounter “another prehistoric family” out in the Pleistocene wilderness.

Elsewhere on the docket is Spooky Jack, slated for release on Septenber 17, 2021 and produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, which follows “three siblings who move into a house filled with paranormal creatures, including leprechauns, Bigfoot, and a shy Boogeyman.” Sounds cute, like Hotel Transylvania. I’m in.
