Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to Host Golden Globes
Good job, Golden Globes! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are set to host this year's Golden Globes ceremony, which is scheduled for January 13, 2013. The duo have previously anchored 'Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update desk together, and co-starred in the 2008 film 'Baby Mama.'
This comes from Variety, and currently the details are sketchy, but these two are a great choice for the awards show, which has had Ricky Gervais host for the last couple of years. The two have shown they're great at working together, and obviously know each other's rhythms having spent so much time together at 'SNL.'
The Globes used to be a lot more fun, as they were considered a harbinger (albeit an unreliable one) for the Oscars, but with the more recent compressed voting schedules of awards season they aren't as telling. The Globes also used to be where celebrities would get much, much drunker beforehand and so there was a great air of bemusement that came from winning awards from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, an organization that has never fully recovered its respect after Pia Zadora won the New Star of the Year award in 1981. That scandalized the awards, not just because of Zadora's win in general, but because the award was considered bought outright. Though the Globes will often give love to the most famous people in the world (Johnny Depp was nominated for 'Alice in Wonderland'), of late there hasn't been anything as scandalous.
