While vacationing and doing home improvement projects and such are fun, there's a reason we celebrate Memorial Day. Here's where you can go to honor our veterans.

There will be a variety of observances and celebrations to honor those who have made the supreme sacrifice in serving our country throughout the Tri-Cities.

  • Sunset Memorial Gardens - By-Pass Highway, Richland. They will again feature the Parade of Flags lining the roads of the cemetery. New additions honoring vets who have passed since last year will be marked with yellow ribbons. Their Memorial Day observance Monday will begin at 11 a.m.
  • Desert Lawn Cemetery - 10th and Union in Kennewick. Memorial Observance Monday at 11 a.m. in the Veterans section of the cemetery. I'm proud to say my grandfather, a WWII and D-Day veteran, plus my father, a Korean War Navy vet, are buried there.
  • Riverview Heights Cemetery - 1200 South Olympia Street in Kennewick. Memorial Day Observance Monday 9 a.m.
  • Columbia Memorial Gardens - 24th and Lewis Street in Pasco will have a Memorial observance Monday at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to attend any and all of these events honoring our veterans, both past and present.
