The Tri-Cities has an awesome arts scene including a Shakespeare company! The Rude Mechanicals have become known for creating original and entertaining productions of Shakespeare's greatest works, with their own "kick-ass" spins. The company prides itself on making Shakespeare accessible to a wide audience by showing The Bard's works with different visions. Whether there is sword-fighting and kilts, or fairies dancing in night clubs, the artistic settings of the plays make it easier for the audience to enjoy, and you never know what they'll come up with next!

In June the Rude Mechanicals brought us The Tempest. It's a story about a banished Duke who has spent many years on a deserted (and enchanted) island with his daughter as his only other human company. The island is occupied by fairies and monsters, some of whom the Duke has gotten under his control with magic. A great tempest (huge storm), has brought his enemies and some old friends to the island, and now he has the chance to get revenge! There's humor, love, worry, doubt, drunken sailors, and so much more in the story, but I don't want to give it all away.

The show got great reviews when it was at the Uptown Theater in Richland, and this weekend it's being revived in Walla Walla! in conjunction with Shakespeare Walla Walla. If you missed it here, or you want to see the magic again, definitely make the short trip to Walla Walla and check it out. The dates are August 10-13th and shows start at 7 pm. at the Whitman College Outdoor Amphitheater. Festival lawn seating begins at 6:15 p.m. The play begins at 7:00 p.m. A $10 donation is suggested. Blankets and picnic dinners are encouraged! See you there!
