So you get that evacuation notice and you start scrambling to pack stuff up. It's your very first evacuation so do you know what to do? The Oregon Dept. of Consumer & Business Services has released two things you can do right now to prepare for an evacuation.

Don't stress, we've got you covered. Here are two things you can do today to save time, money, and stress during a wildfire:

  1. Create a home inventory – Take photos or video of each room in your home. Pay close attention to what’s on walls, in closets and drawers, and storage spaces.
  2. Check your insurance coverage – Make sure you have the right coverage for fire damage. For example, you need comprehensive coverage on your auto policy to cover damage caused by fire.

These two tasks will help people save thousands following a disaster, and they are good for everyone to do, no matter where you live.

You can also get more details by visiting the Division of Financial Regulation website for more resources:

I hope these tips help. We've had a crazy weekend around these parts and being prepared is a smart thing to do during wildfire season.
