Washington State Patrol is continuing their investigation into an incident on Thursday night, where a wanted suspect barricaded himself for over an hour in a vehicle.

At 9:30 pm, troopers attempted to pull over the car for speeding on Interstate 82 westbound near Granger. The driver wouldn't stop and a chase began.

Eventually, spike strips were successful in stopping the vehicle approximately 8 miles west of Toppenish. However, the driver refused to exit the vehicle for more than an hour.  The Yakima County SWAT Team was called out to assist in getting the suspect out of the vehicle.

Pepper spray and a K9 were used to get the man to exit the car.

The driver, 54-year old Serafin Mendez, of Seattle, was arrested for DUI, felony eluding, and driving while license revoked. The suspect was booked into jail with previous warrants for his arrest.
