After becoming part owner of the New Jersey Nets, moving the team to Brooklyn and building a state of the art facility, hip hop mogul and entrepreneur Shawn Carter, better known by his stage name Jay-Z, is expanding his brand further into the world of sports by starting an athlete representation firm called Roc Nation Sports.

On Tuesday, along with the announcement of his new business venture, Carter also announced that New York Yankees second basemen Robinson Cano would be the first player contracted by Roc Nation Sports. This is a step toward a possible future in sports agency for Carter, who said in a statement to the Huffington Post:

Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years.
