The college football season is nearing the end, which means conference championships are being held and the final games for hundreds of senior student athletes. For Cooper Kupp, a 2012 Davis High School grad and current freshman wide receiver at Eastern Washington University, his college career is just beginning and is off to a great start.

On Saturday, Dec. 7, EWU breezed through South Dakota State University to advance to the quarter finals of the 2013 FCS Championship. During the win, Kupp set the school record for touchdown receptions in a season along with the Division I-AA record for a freshman in a season, hauling in his 20th touchdown catch of the season. The DI-AA record was previously held by former Marshall University wide receiver and future NFL Hall of Fame inductee, Randy Moss. Definitely good company to be apart of.

Helping him break these records, Kupp has also enjoyed being in the company of Eagles quarterback Vernon Adams. The sophomore QB is a finalist for the 27th Walter Payton Award, bestowed on the outstanding player in the FCS and considered the Heisman Trophy of the former Division I-AA level. Adding to their accolades, Kupp was nominated for the 3rd Jerry Rice Award, which honors the top FCS freshman of the year.

EWU will now face Jacksonville State next weekend on the red turf of Roos Field in Cheney, WA. Exact date/time will be announced at goeags.com.

SideNote: The game on Saturday was also the coldest game ever played at Roos Field in Cheney, WA. With the wind chill, temperatures were nearly sub zero at the conclusion of the game.
