89-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Racism in Milton-Freewater
A man called police saying his 89-year-old neighbor kept spraying him with a garden hose simply because he was Hispanic. When Milton-Freewater police arrived to investigate, she sprayed them with water and called one a racial slur.
When the officer grabbed the hose from the woman she kicked him. He then arrested and booked her for intimidation, criminal mischief, harassment and attempted assault.
One city council member is suggesting the slur was no different from when people call police "pig," which is something they're supposed to ignore. Yet Oregon law forbids intimidation motivated by racial prejudice. And yet was the officer really "intimidated" by the elderly woman? Umatilla County and Milton-Freewater officials are trying to sort it out.
