Car Fire Closes Both Ramps of Richland’s George Washington Way

Tri-Cities already has one fire burning with the Yakima River Delta fire and then yesterday, another fire broke out near Columbia Point after a disabled car caught fire.

A broken-down car caused a brush fire that ended up closing down both ramps of George Washington Way in Richland yesterday.

According to reports from the fire department, a car fire closed down both ramps of traffic entering Richland from I-182 and 240. The fire spread to dry grass and brush in the median causing a wildfire.

Eyewitnesses claim a Pontiac Fiero caught fire in the median and a bad fuel pump is speculated to be the cause of the car fire.

A flair-up of the Yakima Delta Fire and a brush fire off of Columbia Point had area firefighters busy in the concentrated area of Richland. The new fire near Columbia Point is a brush fire and they are still investigating how that fire started.

At this writing, the Yakima Delta Fire is at 90% contained, and with the Columbia Point brush fire at 60%

145 acres have burned so far and firefighters are letting the brush fires burn out. They'll re-access the situation tomorrow.
