It's all in for capturing the Japanese beetle, an invasive species that Washington State is trying to control.
The Japanese Beetle is a highly invasive insect that can devour leaves and flowers.
Columbia Park Spray Treatment Forces Temporary Dog Park Closure
According to a notice from the City of Kennewick, the city is taking extra precautions to combat the Japanese beetle by closing the Columbia Park Dog Park on June 15th.

Here are the details from the posting:
To control the invasive Japanese beetle population, the Washington State Department of Agriculture will apply a spray in Columbia Park on June 15.
Crews will spray around the bases of trees throughout the park, and treated areas will be safe to enter once the application has dried.

So if you are wondering why the dog park will be closed this coming Monday, now you know.
Last week, I took my dogs to the park on my vacation day, which was last Wednesday.
However, I had forgotten that the dog park still closes for regular maintenance from 6 AM to 9 AM.
I love having the dog park in Kennewick; it's been a great addition to Columbia Park.
