Cyndi Lauper Gets a Star-Studded Tribute for 30th Anniversary of ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ [VIDEO]
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of her hit song 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,' the cast of Cyndi Lauper's Tony-nominated musical 'Kinky Boots' arranged a musical tribute, complete with a whole bunch of famous faces lip-syncing to the '80s classic.
Without causing suspicion, the 'Kinky Boots' ensemble secured the rights from Lauper's manager and Sony music and convinced the likes of stars including Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg, Katie Couric, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb and Kelly Ripa to mouth the words and dance with an iconic pair of boots from the Broadway musical.
Additional surprise guests include appearances from the cast members of other Great White Way shows like 'The Lion King,' 'Phantom of the Opera,' 'Annie,' 'Chicago,' 'Spider-man Turn Off the Dark' and 'Cinderella.'
Upon being shown the finished product on Sunday night (June 2), Lauper told People, "It's so sweet, I'm crying. The 'Kinky Boots' cast is so funny, and all the other shows participating is the sweetest thing I've ever seen."
