Washington Potato Farmers have banded together to give away some 20,000 pounds of free potatoes tomorrow in Ritzville starting at 9 AM.

Right now, there are millions of potatoes getting set to waste away in storehouses across the state. The Washington State Potato Commission and Potato Famers are stepping up and giving away free potatoes to those in need.

Washington State Potato Commission posted this statement on their Facebook page concerning the giveaway.

The free potatoes will be available for pickup at 9 am tomorrow 4/29 next to Harvest Foods (610 W 1st Ave, Ritzville, WA 99169). We had to move the event to accommodate social distancing.

The foodservice industry shutdown has resulted in processed potato production slowing or stopping altogether.

This is causing huge economic impacts on the potato industry. Despite this major setback, Washington potato growers are making an effort to feed our communities.

On Wednesday, April 29th, at 9 am Washington potato farmers will be donating potatoes to those in need. Stop by Harvest Foods in Ritzville, WA for FREE, high-quality Washington spuds.

Salute to our Washington State Potato Farmers for making this happen. If it is a success in Ritzville, they are looking at doing a giveaway in the Tri-Cities next.
