Hate the Time Change? Blame Insects, Candles and Coal!
A British born entomologist proposed moving clocks ahead 2 hours so he had more time in the summer to collect bugs. Then Benjamin Franklin suggested the idea of Daylight Savings so there would be an extra sunshine in the evening and you wouldn't have to light the candles in your home so early. Later the idea was said to be of benefit so people didn't have to burn as much coal.
