Will New Federal Hiring Freeze Affect Hanford and Other Federal Workers in WA?

President Trump's Executive Order for a Hiring Freeze for all Federal agencies will be in effect for 90 days ensuring that we can all expect a delay in the processing of our Tax returns according to KXAN News. President Trump's order prohibits the IRS from filling positions until the treasury secretary can prove it's in the national interest to lift the ban.

The IRS was hoping to fill thousands of positions in Texas as many locations across the country have had low staffing and have needed to pull employees off other positions to help with Tax season.

The IRS has had difficulty processing Tax returns in the past but it is expected to be much worse this year.

Employees for the IRS take months to train.

US Representative Lloyd Doggett says to expect late tax refunds, slow processing and lost revenue. Identity theft has been a huge issue in our country, and likely will not have the staff to deal with those issues either due to low staffing.

60 employees are also being laid off from Hanford Nuclear Reservation due to a Hiring freeze.

Bob Wilkinson Central Plateau Cleanup Co. President told employees in a memo that despite all efforts to limit the number of affected employees this step was essential. according to a recent story in the Tri-City Herald.

This is of no surprise, the President had stated this proposed Executive order would be implemented as soon as he was inaugurated into office.

So let's all hope we didn't overspend at Christmas and have a savings slush fund to get us through some tough times ahead right? With inflation that can be tough. But as Americans, we remain hopeful.
