Motorcycle rider slams pickup head-on in Kennewick

Friday afternoon, Police say an intoxicated motorcycle rider slammed his bike head-on into a pickup truck near 10th at Olympia.

The truck was in the center turn lane when the cyclist came across the intersection and slammed into the front of the truck.

The rider was not wearing a helmet, but fortunately was not seriously hurt. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the rider was also cited for suspicion of  DUI.  According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) data from 2019, over 5,000 motorcycle riders died in crashes.

Kennewick and other law enforcement agencies urge drivers to share the roads, but also for riders to make themselves visible, wear safety gear (helmets) that are DOT compliant, and always ride sober.
