Kennewick Resident Gets First Ever Ride-Along with K-9 Unit
Norma Nunamaker is one lucky resident. She got a special ridealong with the Kennewick K-9 unit which is a rarity. It looks like she had the time of her life!
The Kennewick Police Department posted up photos of the ridealong and an explanation of why Norma as riding along with the K-9 unit. It looks like she had the time of her life. Here is what the KPD had to say about Norma:
If you don’t know Norma Nunamaker, you should! Norma is a saint who through Washington Operation Thank You selflessly spends her time sending care packages to Troops serving abroad and the military K9 teams that support them. Norma also helps welcome home service members as they return from deployments.
About seven years ago Norma began including our K9 Unit to deliver care packages to. Norma took special care to make sure the packages included items our K9s and handlers needed and would help them succeed. This has included items like reward toys for Bear (called a jute), Kong toys used by Axel and Ivan for obedience, pet waste bags, towels and hand sanitizing wipes. Norma would arrive about every month or so with these amazing boxes which have been a huge benefit for our K9 Unit.
As you would imagine our K9s and their handlers have grown very attached to Norma and her awesome spirit of service. Norma is the youngest and most dedicated 84 years old we know. It is always a highlight when Norma comes to visit.
Today Norma was the first person to ever go on a ride-along with K9 Bear and Officer Merkl. Bear teamed up with K9 Ivan and Officer Whitney to show Norma all things K9!
Norma also visited with Pasco Police handler Madsen who presented Norma with a framed photo of area K9s taken recently at Pasco PD. Finally, Norma gave Pasco PD K9 Ezra some love.
We have been very fortunate to meet and work with Norma! Her dedication to helping others is a bright example of the outstanding community we get to serve. We want to thank Norma for her amazing love and support!
Great job Norma and thank you for your wonderful commitment to the K-9 units. You can take a look at all the photos of the ride-along here.
