The Kennewick School District continues to negotiate with the Kennewick Education Association and as of 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 28, 2019, an agreement has not been reached. There will be no school Thursday, Aug. 29, as the KEA continues its strike.

School-based athletic practices and events will continue to be held at their regularly scheduled times, as coaching contracts are separate from the KEA contract.

KSD has pledged to continue to keep the community informed on the status of school and negotiations as information is available.

Please check the district’s website and social media for updates.

Earlier today, KEA and KSD developed and agreed upon a number of additional proposals for contract updates focused on safety.

The tentative agreements focused on safety include:

-Training and compensation for building-based Student Behavior Committee members.

-Clarity regarding staff protection, communication, response to threats, and the sharing of safety-related information about students.

-Formation of a Task Force, inclusive of teachers, building administrators and district administrators, to study Special Education programs, including our six Tier II Behavior Intervention programs, and to make recommendations for improvements in the treatment model.

Details of the ongoing contract negotiations can be found here.
