Mike Blatman was well-known in the Tri-Cities community. Mike spent 41 years in service to the Kennewick Police Department and was heavily involved in the Crime Stoppers program. Blatman sadly passed away last year but he's fondly being remembered with a new dedicated bench in front of the Kennewick Police Department.

In a statement from the Kennewick Police Department, here is what KPD had to say about the dedication:

Mike Blatman dedicated 41 years of service to the police department, Crime Stoppers, and the community. Unfortunately, last year, shortly after retiring, Mike passed away. In honor of Mike's dedicated service, Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers recently donated a bench in front of the station.
After becoming a Kennewick Police reserve officer in 1977, Mike was hired as a full-time crime prevention specialist in January 1978, a job he held for 41 years. But he was so much more than that.

Mike was a Certified Protection Professional through the American Society for Industrial Security. He was responsible for facilitating many successful programs to include, crime prevention training to businesses to reduce losses and employee safety, development of the loss prevention/shoplift program, served as the liaison with the Tri-City Financial Security Officers Association, ASIS International Loss prevention association and the Kennewick Focus program with the Kennewick School District.
He was also the program manager for our false alarm reduction program, Public Information Officer, National Night Out coordinator, Tri-Cities Crime Stoppers, and led our efforts to develop our current social media outreach program.

Mike was also responsible for conducting background checks and licensing for alarm installers, TNC drivers, solicitors. He coordinated many internal departmental functions and was very active in virtually every outreach program over the last four decades.
Mike was the 2007 Kennewick Police Employee of the Year recipient and received several Chief’s Awards and countless letters of appreciation for the work he performed to reduce crime. Mike was also on the Board of Directors for Crime Stoppers USA and in 2017 he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Washington State Crime Stoppers Association.
Mike loved the department, his co-workers, and his community. He will be greatly missed but always remembered.
it's a wonderful way to salute one of Tri-Cities' favorite folks. You can see the bench and the dedication right there in front of the Kennewick Police Department.
