Leaving Your Pets at Home for the Holidays: Tips for a Stress-Free Time Away
The holiday season is here, and while you may be excited about traveling, you might also be worrying about leaving your pets behind. I get so anxious when I have to leave my two dogs and two horses.
Cameras to see your pets are a good idea
I have cameras set up all around so that I can look in on them while I'm away. That way I can see them playing in the yard and know they are okay. I would also be able to see if something was wrong and could alert someone to help.
I have a fantastic pet sitter who stays at my home when I'm gone so that my furry family members aren't always alone.
Find a good Pet Sitter
The best solution, of course, is to have a Pet sitter stay in your home while you're away. This provides your pets with familiar surroundings and keeps them company, which helps reduce stress.
But if a house sitter isn’t an option, make sure you assign someone responsible to at least feed your pets at the same time you do.
Keep your pets routine for feeding
Routine is key for your pets’ peace of mind. Another simple trick is to leave a radio or the TV on, something familiar, that mimics the sounds of you being home.
I also make sure my pet sitter is stocked up with extra Bully Sticks and toys for chewing. They help soothe my pets if they start to feel anxious.
It's important to eliminate potential hazards, so I never leave anything on the floor that they could chew or swallow if they become stressed.
Finding a reliable pet sitter can be a challenge, but there are plenty of professionals who do this for a living.
If possible, try to find someone you already know and trust, especially if they live nearby. This can make all the difference in keeping your pets comfortable and safe while you’re away.
With the right preparation, your pets will be well cared for, and you can enjoy your holiday without worry!
