Reporters claiming Game of Thrones’ final season will premiere in April 2019 have officially made Arya’s list. Star Maisie Williams says recent comments about the 2019 premiere landing in spring were “completely false,” and taken out of context from an earlier interview.

It was last week that Metro U.K. reported Williams’ comment that production would “wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019],” though her words admittedly contradicted other claims that filming would wrap in the summer. An April premiere nonetheless seemed plausible – given spring premieres for prior seasons and HBO’s desire to air the final season as soon as possible – though Williams now claims over Twitter the Metro story was inaccurate:

Curiously, Williams’ alleged quote specifically referenced the “final season,” leaving it unclear how Metro would have taken an interview excerpt from years earlier out of context. Here’s the original text:

We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]. That’s a four-month turnaround for these huge episodes. There’s a lot that goes into the final edit. You would not want to rush this season at all. We owe it to our audience and our fans to really do this final season to the best of our abilities.

It’s possible HBO may simply want to keep its options open, as the network is only committing to 2019 for now. And considering the rigmarole we went through to confirm Game of Thrones Season 7’s premiere, this particular ice may not crack for another few months.
