Monday Night Fire, Smoke, Kills Elderly Woman in Kennewick

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death of an elderly woman found in a Kennewick home after a fire call.

WHAT DREW FIREFIGHTERS TO THE LOCATION?

Around 6:15 PM a friend of a 65-year-old woman arrived at the home at 228 North Quincy Street and reportedly found a fire in progress.

Kennewick Fire Crews, according to reports, did not see any external evidence of fire, but found a small blaze inside near the door that was extinguished.

The room was also full of smoke. There was apparent evidence of a small explosion near where the fire started.

The woman was found near what fire crews said was the source of the blast, she is said to be 65 but no ID released yet.

WHAT CAUSED THE ALLEGED EXPLOSION?

Authorities do not know what caused the explosion, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the woman's cause of death.  The home is located on the east side of the Zintel Creek Golf Club, formerly the Kennewick Country Club.
