Fish & Wildlife officials in northeast Oregon are concerned about citizens dropping off animal feed for deer and elk.

Here are 3 surprisingly logical reasons to let the animals starve:

1) it can make them sick (their winter stomachs can't handle alfalfa)

2) it brings lots of animals together and spreads disease between herds

3) the predators follow the herds thus drawing cougars and wolves to human areas.

How can they be so cold hearted? The state wildlife experts explain that making sure the animals eat well in the fall and have fat stores for winter is by far the best thing for them and for management of the herds. That occurred, and now the strongest and healthiest animals will survive. Feeding the weak ones in January disrupts the "cycle of life" and causes big problems for them, for the forests and for us!
