Phillip Phillips Wins ‘American Idol’ Season 11
Phillip Phillips was voted the winner of ‘American Idol,’ grabbing the Season 11 crown with a record-breaking 132 million votes. That’s a lot of ladies voting, since we all know he had a way with the women — as in, he made ‘em melt. Jessica Sanchez was the runner up.
Despite the fact that he was a ladies’ favorite, Phillips won since he is a true talent.
Looking dapper in a black suit, Phillips, utterly shocked by his win, strapped on his trusty acoustic guitar and performed ‘Home,’ his debut song. He totally won us over again with his sweet, artsy sentimentality. He couldn’t get through the song without breaking down and crying. It was a beautiful and touching moment. He took off his guitar and walked into the crowd to hug his family — yet another reason he endeared himself to us. We’re sure that once he processes what just happened to him, he’ll be rocking our worlds to their core for a long, long time.
During the finale, Phillips partnered with classic rock legend John Fogerty for ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain,’ and it was a perfect partnership. They also kicked it up a notch for ‘Bad Moon Rising.’ Meanwhile, Sanchez sang ‘And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going’ with Jennifer Holliday. It was a diva battle, during which Holliday took it way over the top.
Hollie Cavanagh and Jordin Sparks got together to perform ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ It was two divas doing it up, in complimentary fashion.
Joshua Ledet sparkled with Fantasia Barrino on ‘Take Me to the Pilot’ by Elton John. It was dramatic and full of jumping and screaming histrionics. Mantasia, if you will.
Skylar Laine returned to perform with Reba, and it was a country princess and queen, both of whom are cut from the same cloth. They absolutely rocked ‘Turn On the Radio.’ It was so cute and so fierce!
Congratulations, Phillip Phillips! And congrats to Sanchez. She is going to be scooped up by Akon in two seconds flat, since he has gone on record to say so!
