The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management is changing the evacuation level for Thorp Rd near the landslide from a Level 3 “Go” to a Level 1 “Be Ready”.

In a press release from the YVOEM, this change is being based on the findings in the report that was released last night from a third party geological review.

The press release reads:

One of the opinions in that report was: “Assuming continued diligence, it can be stated categorically that the acceleration signature will provide adequate time for evacuation and detours of highway lifelines prior to rapid failure.”

This change in evacuation level means that The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management is no longer recommending an evacuation for the homes on Thorp Rd.

Any person that is living in those homes can return, but should “Be Ready” to evacuate again if conditions change.  The Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management has a process in place to notify future changes in evacuation levels.
